Following her suicide in May 1821, Prud’hon prepared this oil sketch and completed the full-scale version of the painting, now lost, as his final submission to the Salon before his own death little more than a year later. Oil on canvas was used by the artist as the technique for the artwork. What is more, this artwork is in the the \u003cem\u003eYale University Art Gallery's\u003c\/em\u003e art collection.
