Fishing boats are being unloaded on the beach, where the catch is sorted and piled onto carts. Such beaches were a favorite destination of Dutch city dwellers for whom watching the activities of the fishing fleets was a popular leisure activity. The restricted monochrome tonality of this painting, typical of Van Goyen's works of the 1630s, properly evokes the humid atmosphere of the Dutch North Sea coast.

Background data on the artwork

Name of the work of art:

"The Old Church at Egmond aan Zee"

Classification of the artpiece:

painting

Category:

classic art

Century:

17th century

Year of creation:

1634

Age of artwork:

around 380 years old

Artwork original medium:

oil on panel

Original dimensions (artwork):

22-1/4 x 33-1/4 in

Museum / collection:

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Museum location:

Indianapolis, Indiana, United States of America

Website of the museum:

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Artwork license type:

public domain

Courtesy of:

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Short overview of the artist

Artist:

Jan v. Because our fine art prints are printed and processed by hand, there may also be minor deviations in the motif's exact position and the size.

© Copyright protection - www.artprinta.com (Artprinta)
