English: The perspective in this painting is that of the passer-by. The woman about to go to bed appears to have arrested her movement of drawing the curtains as her gaze meets ours. This picture can be seen as a play on the theme of allure and forbidden love. The light adds to the visual tension by alternately concealing and revealing.
