Description by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (© - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - www.metmuseum.org)

As a family gathers to eat in a humble room, a grandfather blesses the food next to his wife, as a younger woman holds a baby in her lap, and two children sit quietly in the foregound. Thomas's wood engraving reproduces a painting by Frederick Goodall, the second son of the skilled line engraver Edward Goodall. As a child, Frederick and his siblings had been encouraged to pursue art by John Ruskin, Clarkson Stanfield, David Roberts, and J.M.W. Turner. At sixteen, Goodall showed four commissioned watercolors at the Royal Academy, then won a silver medal at the Society of Arts for an oil painting. This early success allowed visits to Brittany and Ireland, and led him to depict rustic village subjects influenced by David Wilkie. In 1852, Goodall was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy. An extended trip to Egypt in 1858 set his subsequent career on a different course.

Choose your favorite fine art print material

In the product dropdown selection you can select your individual size and material. The following options are available for individualization:

  • Printed poster (canvas material): The poster print is a printed flat canvas paper with a slight surface finish. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin of something between 2-6cm around the artwork to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
  • Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): A glossy print on acrylic glass, often described as a an art print on plexiglass, changes the original work of art into wonderful wall décor. The great advantage of an acrylic glass fine art copy is that sharp contrasts and smaller image details become identifiable due to the subtle gradation.
  • The canvas print: A UV printed canvas stretched on a wooden frame. A printed canvas of this artwork will allow you to transform your personal into a large size work of art. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which means that it is easy to hang the Canvas print without any wall-mounts. Canvas prints are suitable for all kinds of walls.
  • Metal print (aluminium dibond): Aluminium Dibond prints are prints on metal with an outstanding effect of depth. For our Direct Print On Aluminum Dibond, we print your artpiece right onto the surface of the white-primed aluminum composite. The white & bright sections of the artpiece shimmer with a silky gloss but without any glow. Colors are luminous and bright in the highest definition, the details of the print are crisp and clear, and there’s a matte appearance that you can literally feel.
