In the district of Les Halles in Paris, a carriage stopped in front of the window of the bakery Joblin. Six strong Halles wearing their coltin work unloading bags of flour. The center of the composition, of a fariniers, seen from behind and bare arms, is pressed his cane. Beside it, another wipes the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief. The human right monitors harnessed horses under the gaze of a small dog who stands in place of the check.

Louis Carrier-Belleuse observed with a "photographic eye" details of modern life and makes small trades of Paris his favorite theme. The flour carrier is celebrated here for his physical strength.
