Mrs. Chesebrough, born Margaret Sylvester, was the wife of a wealthy and prominent merchant in Newport, Rhode Island. The couple later lived in Stonington, Connecticut. Blackburn seems to have been trained in England before coming to work on this side of the Atlantic. He apparently spent a couple of years as a portraitist in Bermuda before establishing himself in New England. This likeness, dated 1754, is one of his first American works. A decade later he was back in England, presumably supplanted in American colonial painting by the young and rapidly developing Copley, who was becoming a major figure. The Museum's portrait shows Blackburn's skill in rendering drapery and details of costume, and in making his sitters look fashionable and elegant.

What materials can I choose?

In the dropdown menu next to the article you can choose your prefered material and size. Hence, we allow you to choose among the following options:

  • Acrylic glass print: A glossy acrylic glass print, often labelled as a an art print on plexiglass, transforms your selected original into beautiful décor. Beyond that, the acrylic glass art print is a great alternative option to canvas or dibond art prints. Your own copy of the work of art is being manufactured with the help of modern UV direct print technology. Our acrylic glass protects your selected art print against light and external influences for several decades.
  • The canvas print: A printed canvas material mounted on a wood stretcher frame. It has the typical impression of three dimensionality. A canvas print of your favorite artwork will let you turn your new fine art print into a large size artpiece as you would see in a gallery. A canvas print has the advantage of being low in weight, which means that it is quite simple to hang up the Canvas print without any wall-mounts. Canvas prints are suitable for all kinds of walls.
  • Aluminium dibond print (metal): An Aluminium Dibond print is a print material with a true depth effect - for a modern look and a non-reflective surface structure. The bright parts of the artpiece shimmer with a silk gloss, however without any glow. The direct UV print on Aluminum Dibond is the most popular entry-level product and is an extremely stylish way to display art, since it draws attention on the image.
  • The poster print (canvas material): The poster print is a UV printed canvas with a fine surface finish. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin of something between 2-6 cm around the painting, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
