Suisse, a former artist’s model, established an informal—and extremely liberal—art school in Paris which the young Courbet attended in the mid-1840s. By the time of this portrait, dated to 1861, Manet, Monet, and Pissarro had also studied at the Académie Suisse. The sitter’s spectacles and tousled gray hair indicate that he is getting on in age, but his gaze is sharp and animated; a fitting tribute to an early creative influence, painted the same year that Courbet opened a teaching studio of his own.

  • Canvas: The printed canvas, which should not be mistaken with a canvas painting, is a digital copy printed directly on cotton canvas. What is more, printed canvas creates a lovely and warm look. Hanging a canvas print: Canvas prints are relatively low in weight. This means, it is easy to hang up your Canvas print without the support of additional wall-mounts. Canvas prints are suited for any kind of wall.
  • Poster print (canvas material): The poster print is a printed flat canvas paper with a nice texture on the surface. Please note, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin 2-6 cm round about the print motif to facilitate the framing.
  • Printed acrylic glass: An print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes labelled as a UV print on plexiglass, changes an original artwork into wonderful décor. Your artwork will be made thanks to modern UV print technology. This has the impression of vibrant, sharp color tones. With an acrylic glass fine art print contrasts as well as minor painting details become more exposed because of the subtle tonal gradation.
  • Metal print (aluminium dibond): An Aluminium Dibond print is a material with a true depth effect - for a modern look and non-reflective surface structure. The bright parts of the original artwork shimmer with a silk gloss but without the glare. Colors are bright and luminous in the highest definition, fine details of the print are crisp and clear.
