Gauermann grew up in Miesbach am Schneeberg, in an area that was still largely untapped in the first half of the 19th century. Throughout his life he kept in countless sketches and paintings his immediate home fixed, where it was not him alone for their "beauty", but rather the presentation of their diversity. Sometimes he used also to help to the scene to a compressed statement of a certain dramatization. So again, the cloud-shrouded skies should emphasize the impending battle between the two vultures to the dead deer. The presentation of animal fighting since the Baroque had tradition and found not least by Gauermann in the Biedermeier period a revival. [Sabine Grabner 8/2009]
