General description as provided by the museum's website (© - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Born in Massachusetts, Hathaway worked as an itinerant portrait painter before pursuing a career in medicine. "Lady with Her Pets" is his earliest known work and depicts Molly Wales Fobes of Raynham, Massachusetts. Fashionably dressed, Molly sits in a Chippendale-style chair surrounded by a fantastical array of “pets,” which were likely included as emblems of her beauty, loyalty, and affection. They may also reference her family’s interest in natural history, as her father was a professor of Natural and Experimental Philosophy. The flowers decorating her fan and bodice, combined with her French-inspired hairstyle, identify Molly as a refined and worldly woman.

Pick a art print material variant

In the dropdown menu next to the article you can choose a material and a size of your choice. We allow yout to choose among the following variants:

  • Aluminium dibond (metal print): These are metal prints on aluminium dibond with an impressive depth. For your Direct Print On Aluminum Dibond, we print the selected artwork onto the surface of the white-primed aluminum material. The white and bright sections of the original artwork shimmer with a silk gloss, however without the glare. The print on aluminium is the most popular entry-level product and is a truly sophisticated way to display fine art prints, as it puts 100% of the viewer’s focus on the image.
  • Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): A glossy print on acrylic glass, which is often denoted as a print on plexiglass, makes an artwork into lovely décor and offers a good alternative option to aluminium or canvas prints. The artwork is being printed with the help of modern UV print technology. It creates rich and impressive colors. The major benefit of an acrylic glass print is that contrasts and small color details become recognizeable thanks to the fine tonal gradation. The plexiglass with real glass coating protects your chosen art print against light and heat for decades.
  • Canvas: The canvas print, which should not be mistaken with a painting on a canvas, is a digital replica applied directly on canvas. A canvas has the plastic effect of three-dimensionality. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight. That means, it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without the use of additional wall-mounts. Hence, a canvas print is suited for all types of walls.
  • Printed poster on canvas material: The Artprinta poster is a printed cotton canvas with a slightly roughened surface finish, that reminds the original version of the work of art. A poster is used for framing the art print using a special frame. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin 2-6cm around the artwork in order to facilitate the framing with a custom frame.
