At sunset a caique led by twelve oarsmen left the port of Constantinople. The Sultana is elongated at the back of the boat, at the front a dancer dressed in red standing by deploying a veil accompanied by two musicians seated near her. There are a crescent moon in the sky still blue of the evening. In the background, the Hagia Sophia dome and minarets of the city stand out. Some seagulls flying over the calm waters of the Bosphorus.

A great traveler, Felix Ziem stayed twice at Constantinople in June 1847 and for two months in 1856. The watercolors executed on the grounds will subsequently times in the workshop.
