In a rocky landscape, three bourgeois stopped in the middle of a gypsy camp. The woman, likely accompanied by her husband, fell from his horse and actually read the lines of the hand by a man in rags. Around them, men, women and children rest, some around a fire over which cooked poultry, others along the sentier.Le term "Gypsies", which gives its name to the table, designated the Orientals from India, traveling mainly in the Netherlands and France at the beginning of the fifteenth century. They are found repeatedly in the painting of the seventeenth century, since they are an opportunity for artists to represent begging scene by the fire, or reading the good aventure.Wouwerman develops here a rich palette, including the use of the bright blue sky in the corner, top left. The yellow lady dress and red cape jumper are also bright color accents amid brown tones so characteristic of the painter. A drawing Leonaert Bramer (private collection) resumed the composition of this painting.
The array is passed in numerous auctions, thereby highlighting the popularity of Wouwerman through the evolution of the sale price of the painting: it is sold 395 fl April 10, 1743 (Amsterdam sale, Verkolje ... Van der Land, No. 12), 1000 fl 6 October 1801 (Amsterdam sale, Van der Schley, 71, sold to Bernard Coclers) 2260 fl January 25, 1802 (sale Van Eyl Sluyter, Paris, Payet & Delaroche No. 198, sold Paillet). We do not know the price at which it was sold March 27, 1810 (sale Rotterdam, Cornel, No. 3), or one for which Edward Gray bought it in 1829. The Gray collection is sold in 1839. In 1840, the table Bourgeois joined the collection in Paris in 7000 en, then joined the Steengracht collection at the Hague in 1842. He will also be part of the collection of Charles Augustus, Duke of Morny, a man of Parisian State, which the bought 20 June 1848 in London to 189 books and sold it to brothers Dutuit May 24, 1852 for 5400 francs (sales Paris, Laneuville & Ridel, No. 35). In 1902, Auguste bequeathed Dutuit the table at the City of Paris.

Which materials can I order?
For every product we offer different sizes and materials. That is why, we allow you to choose among the following options:
- Acrylic glass print: The print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes referenced as a print on plexiglass, will change your favorite original into amazing wall decoration. The artwork will be custom-made with the help of state-of-the-art UV direct printing technology. With an acrylic glass art print contrasts and small details become more visible thanks to the precise gradation in the print. Our acrylic glass protects your selected art print against light and heat for up to six decades.
- Metal print (aluminium dibond): These are metal prints on aluminium dibond with an impressive depth - for a modern impression and a non-reflective surface. For the Print On Aluminum Dibond, we print the chosen artwork right on the aluminium composite surface. Colors are luminous and bright, the details appear crisp and clear.
- Canvas print: The UV printed canvas applied on a wood frame. A printed canvas of your favorite artwork will allow you to transform your personal fine art print into a large size work of art like you know from art galleries. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is quite simple to hang up your Canvas print without the support of additional wall-mounts. That is why, canvas prints are suited for any kind of wall.
- Poster (canvas material): The poster print is a UV printed canvas paper with a slightly rough finish on the surface. Please keep in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm around the painting, which facilitates the framing with a custom frame.
