Original artwork description as provided by the museum (© - The J. Paul Getty Museum -

Dosso Dossi depicted the aftermath of Saint George's battle with the dragon, in which he wields the creature's bloodied head and the lance broken during the fight. Under an emerging rainbow, the victorious patron saint of Ferrara, Italy, emerges from the darkness of the battle. Dossi poignantly expressed his subject's recent emotional turmoil in the saint's penetrating expression. He appears weary yet resolute in his triumph.

The symbols of Saint George's Christian faith--crosses rendered in vivid strokes of red paint as though the blood of his opponent drips down its shaft--mark the weapon. The color of the crosses echoes the blood ringing the beast's mouth and also symbolizes the blood of Christ.

Product materials you can choose from

We offer a range of various sizes and materials for every product. Choose among the following product options now to match your preferences in size and material:

  • Printed poster (canvas material): The poster print is a printed flat canvas with a fine texture on the surface. A poster print is excellently suited for placing the fine art print with the help of a customized frame. Please keep in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster print we add a white margin between 2-6cm around the work of art to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
  • The glossy acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): A glossy print on acrylic glass, often referenced as a UV print on plexiglass, transforms the original work of art into amazing home décor and forms a good alternative option to aluminium or canvas art prints. Your own replica of the work of art is custom-made with state-of-the-art UV printing machines. This creates vivid and stunning color hues. The great benefit of a plexiglass fine art print is that sharp contrasts as well as artwork details become more recognizeable due to the very subtle gradation.
  • Aluminium dibond print: Aluminium Dibond prints are prints on metal with an impressive depth. The non-reflective surface structure make a fashionable look. The bright components of the artpiece shimmer with a silk gloss, however without the glow.
  • Canvas: The printed canvas, not to be confused with a painting on a canvas, is a digital copy printed from a UV direct printing machine. It has a exclusive look of three-dimensionality. What is more, canvas produces a nice and pleasing impression. Hanging a canvas print: A canvas print has the great advantage of being low in weight, meaning that it is quite simple to hang the Canvas print without the support of any wall-mounts. Hence, canvas prints are suited for all kinds of walls.
