In this battle picture, shown in the Salon of 1879, Détaille depicts an incident that he had observed on December 2, 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War. General Faron's soldiers are shown fortifying their new position at the town of Champigny-sur-Marne, near Paris, and breaking openings in the wall for cannons. General Faron is at the left, talking to an old gardener. The artist painted a replica of the picture in 1879 (private collection) and returned to the subject for a huge panorama of the battle (now destroyed) that he executed with de Neuville in 1882.

  • Metal (aluminium dibond print): Aluminium Dibond prints are metal prints with an impressive depth effect. The bright and white parts of the artpiece shine with a silk gloss, however without any glow. The colors of the print are luminous and vivid in the highest definition, fine details of the print are crisp.
  • Poster (canvas material): The poster print is a printed sheet of flat cotton canvas with a slightly rough structure on the surface, that reminds the original version of the work of art. The printed poster is suited for placing the fine art print in a customized frame. Please bear in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm round about the artwork in order to facilitate the framing.
  • Printed acrylic glass (with real glass coating): A glossy acrylic glass print, often described as a plexiglass print, makes an original into brilliant home decoration. The great upside of a plexiglass fine art print is that sharp contrasts as well as smaller details will be more visible due to the subtle gradation in the picture.
