Representation of the Virgin welcoming and comforting sinful prostrate at his feet. The Litany of Loreto, or the Litany of the Blessed Virgin, is a long series of invocations to the Virgin Mary, they are one of five litanies allowed in the liturgy, with the litany of the saints, the Litany of the Holy Name Jesus, the litany to St. Joseph, the litany of the Sacred Heart.

The table is presented at the Salon of 1857 under No. 1680 entitled Refugeccaium torpum, Litany of the Virgin. The artist also performs another table Refugium peccatorum.
