A craftsman wearing a cap in work apron shows that cutting takes in hand the Italian Renaissance artist Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571). This one, wearing a cap, holding a certainly object of his making, under the arm.

This sketch was performed in the competition for the boys' school in the rue Dombasle launched August 9, 1879 by the municipal council of the City of Paris. Valton won third place. It was Paul Baudouin, who won the vote by presenting a "History of the wheat."
