Gustave Moreau developed a highly personal vision that combined history, myth, mysticism, and a fascination with the exotic and bizarre. Rooted in the Romantic tradition, Moreau focused on the expression of timeless enigmas of human existence rather than on recording or capturing the realities of the material world.

The 19th century piece of art was made by the male painter Gustave Moreau in 1876. The original was made with the size - 179,3 × 154 cm (70 9/16 × 60 5/8 in) and was crafted with the medium oil on canvas. The original artwork's inscription is: inscribed at lower left: Gustave Moreau. Today, this work of art is included in the art collection of Art Institute Chicago.
