Brother Francis Roman (1646-1735). Inspector of Highways and architect of the buildings of the king's, the Generalitat of Paris. He points to a drawing of the Royal bridge that holds in his left hand. He is dressed in the Dominican robe, the hood on his shoulders.

The wooden bridge which was a continuation of the Rue du Bac was swept away by a flood in February 1684. The Royal bridge was built in its place, at the king's expense, from 1685 to 1689 following a joint project of Brother François Romain, Jules Hardouin-Mansart and Jacques Gabriel.
