The "Slaughter of the Innocents" is reported in the "Gospel according to Matthew." King Herod killed all the boys under two years born around Bethlehem as the Magi had announced his birth in this city of a child destined to become king of the Jews. Jesus was saved from slaughter by fleeing into Egypt from Famille.Nicolas Poussin depicts the dramatic episode of the New Testament.
