Odilon Redon, 1914 - Pandora - fine art print

Between 1908 and 1914, Redon repeatedly depicted beautiful women from classical mythology, including Pandora, who was fashioned by the god Vulcan and sent to earth by Jupiter. Here, she appears nude, in a state of perfect innocence, and surrounded by flowers, like Eve in the Garden of Eden. According to legend, when Pandora opened the box cradled in her arms, she unleashed all the evils destined to plague humanity, bringing to an end the idyllic Golden Age. Such imagery may have had particular resonance for Redon and his compatriots as World War I approached.

The modern art painting named Pandora was made by Odilon Redon in 1914. The over 100 years old original has the size: 56 1/2 x 24 1/2 in (143,5 x 62,2 cm) and was painted on the medium oil on canvas. What is more, the artpiece is included in the digital collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is one of the world's largest and finest art museums, which includes more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe.. Bing, 1959. On top of that, alignment of the digital reproduction is in portrait format with a side ratio of 2 : 5, which implies that the length is 60% shorter than the width. The illustrator, painter, sculptor, printmaker, lithographer Odilon Redon was an artist, whose art style can be classified as Symbolism. The artist was born in 1840 and deceased at the age of 76 in the year 1916.
