The Protestant rulers of Saxony commissioned this animated hunt scene, set near their residence seen in the background, Hartenfels Castle (in eastern Germany). John Frederick the Magnanimous, in the bottom left corner, wears dark green hunting attire; he spans his crossbow and waits for his courtiers and dogs to chase a stag across the river. His wife, the Electress Sibylle, stands at right, poised to take the first ceremonial shot. The prince electors of Saxony were passionate practitioners of hunting with dogs—elaborate, highly rehearsed occasions, coordinated by the use of signals from hunting horns. Cranach dated this work and his signature is the winged snake at lower right. 1577 in the right corner is an inventory number.

Selectable product materials

We offer a range of various sizes and materials for every product. In order match your personal requirements perfectly, you can choose among the following product customization options:

  • Acrylic glass print: The acrylic glass print, which is sometimes denoted as a UV print on plexiglass, makes an original work of art into wall decoration and forms a viable alternative to canvas or dibond art prints. Your own copy of the work of art is being printed with modern UV print technology. It makes rich and sharp color hues. The real glass coating protects your selected fine art print against light and heat for many years.
  • Metal (aluminium dibond print): These are metal prints on alu dibond with an impressive effect of depth - for a modern impression and non-reflective surface. For our Aluminium Dibond print, we print your chosen artpiece on the aluminium white-primed surface.
  • Canvas print: A printed canvas applied on a wood frame. A canvas creates the exclusive look of three dimensionality. Canvas Prints have the advantage of being low in weight, meaning that it is easy and straightforward to hang up the Canvas print without the help of additional wall-mounts. A canvas print is suited for any type of wall.
  • The poster print (canvas material): The Artprinta poster is a printed canvas with a slight surface finish. Please note, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin of around 2-6cm round about the work of art, which facilitates the framing.
