While the south side of the current front of Notre Dame, was occupied gradually from the twelfth century until 1878, the Hotel-Dieu. There has been increased from 1602 to 1606, an annex, the St. Charles room, in front, on the left bank of the Seine. Between 1714 and 1719 St. Charles Hall was extended westward to the little Chatelet. The Hotel-Dieu caught fire in 1737, 1742 and 1772. It was completely demolished in 1878.
