The Morgue dock New-Market (Ile de la Cité). urban nightscape. Docked in front of the Morgue (housed in the building of the butcher's Neuf-market since 1804), a full boat of bare corpses and piled, covered with a cloth, is about to leave (towards the harbor Gros Caillou), while other corpses carried on stretchers keep coming. curious attend the scene, on the Pont Saint-Michel, on the banks and the windows of houses.
The bodies of unidentified victims were buried in the plain of Grenelle. The work is probably the one that was exhibited at the Salon of 1835 (No. 1705).
