In this illustration is one of the first genre paintings in the Austrian painting of the 19th century. The story that entwines around the girl does not develop from an action, but from the figure itself. But it remains unclear whether the young woman reflects on the lost the lottery money, or whether they considered their money in the " to invest small game for Linz ". Peter Fendi chose not the subject by chance, but was referring to the thriving luck transactions that could be topic of the day the lottery. When the painting exhibition 1830 Academy was shown in, there was tremendous echo in the press. Emperor Franz I bought it in the same year for its collection of paintings. [Sabine Grabner 8/2009]
