English: This is usually the kind of painting we associate with Vilhelm Hammershøi; pictures of sparsely furnished rooms. Occasionally, a woman reading or simply being in the room, often with her back turned. The artist conjures up a charged atmosphere using small means – light, shadow, space, walls and doorways. The painter Vilhelm Hammershøi was a European artist from Denmark, whose art style can primarily be classified as Realism. The Danish artist lived for 52 years and was born in the year 1864 in Copenhagen and died in the year 1916 in Copenhagen.
