The 19th century masterpiece was created by the realist master Gustave Courbet. The 170 years old version of the artwork was painted with the size: Height: 77,5 cm, Width: 62 cm and was manufactured with the technique Oil, Canvas (material). The painter, sculptor, communard Gustave Courbet was a European artist from France, whose style was mainly Realism. The Realist artist was born in the year 1819 in Ornans, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France and died at the age of 58 in 1877 in La Tour-de-Peilz, Vaud, Switzerland.

The younger sister of the artist, Juliette Courbet (1831-1915), then aged 13, poses sitting in a chair with caned seats, city dress. For three quarters, head turned towards the viewer, it crosses the arm. Behind her, a large curtain decorated with large flower reveals a mirror in front of which is placed a flower pot.

Throughout his life Courbet received the support of his family and especially that of the youngest of four sisters, Juliette. Sole heir, remained single, she devoted the rest of his life defending the work of his brother and donated to French museums of major works remained in the workshop. Thus the Petit Palais received in 1909 six paintings by Courbet, among lequels was this portrait.
