What does the Art Institute Chicago write about this 19th century work of art created by Jonas Welch Holman? (© Copyright - by Art Institute Chicago - www.artic.edu)
Jonas Holman worked as a portrait painter, writer, doctor, and preacher, supporting himself through these vocations as he traveled among Baptist congregations. By 1827 he had made his way to Philadelphia where he painted seven known portraits, among them Woman with a Book and Man with a Pen. In these works Holman substituted a brilliant, tasseled curtain for a plain background. He showed his sitters in painted "fancy" chairs, with broad, Greek Revival crest rails, similar to painted furniture made in Philadelphia or Baltimore. Like Ammi Phillips, Holman used props that pointed to the sitters’ erudition; he also concentrated on the details of his sitters’ costumes, showing women with rings and earrings and men with stickpins fastened to cravats.

The material options
We offer a range of different sizes and materials for every product. The following options are available for individualization:
- The canvas print: The printed canvas, not to be confused with a canvas painting, is a digital replica printed from an industrial printer. A canvas print of this artwork will let you turn your new fine art print into a large artwork as you know from galleries. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, meaning that it is easy to hang up the Canvas print without the use of extra wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suited for any type of wall.
- The acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): The print on acrylic glass, often labelled as a plexiglass print, transforms the original work of art into great décor. Your own copy of the artwork will be custom-made with the help of modern UV print technology. The major advantage of a plexiglass fine art print is that contrasts and details become more recognizeable with the help of the precise tonal gradation in the picture. The real glass coating protects your custom art replica against sunlight and heat for many years to come.
- Aluminium print (aluminium dibond): Aluminium Dibond prints are prints on metal with an outstanding effect of depth. A direct Aluminium Dibond Print is your best introduction to fine art replicas made on alu. The bright parts of the work of art shimmer with a silk gloss, however without glow. The colors of the print are bright and vivid, the details appear crisp and clear, and the print has a a matte look you can literally feel.
- Poster (canvas material): A poster print is a printed canvas with a nice surface texture. The printed poster is designed for framing your fine art print with a custom frame. Please bear in mind, that depending on the size of the poster we add a white margin of something between 2 - 6cm round about the print motif, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
