Artwork description from the museum's website (© - by Art Institute Chicago - www.artic.edu)
In this painting, the young boy in the woman’s lap may be Paul Gauguin’s son, born to his Tahitian lover Pahura. The boy was named Emil after the artist’s eldest legitimate child. The older woman may be the boy’s grandmother. This composition recalls the common Christian image of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child and young Saint John the Baptist, although here the older child is presumably a girl.

Materials our customers can choose from
We offer a range of different materials and sizes for every product. That is why, we allow you to choose among the following options:
- Printed poster (canvas material): A poster print is a printed flat cotton canvas paper with a slight surface texture. It is designed for framing your art copy in a custom-made frame. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin 2 - 6cm round about the work of art to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
- Canvas: A printed canvas material applied on a wooden frame. A canvas has a particular impression of three-dimensionality. The advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which means that it is easy to hang your Canvas print without the support of additional wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suitable for all types of walls.
- Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): An acrylic glass print, which is often labelled as a print on plexiglass, will transform the original into marvellous home décor. In addition to that, the acrylic art print is a viable alternative to dibond and canvas fine art prints. The work of art is being printed with modern UV print machines.
- Aluminium dibond print: An Aluminium Dibond print is a material with an outstanding depth. A direct Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is your excellent introduction to art reproductions manufactured on aluminum.
