Work presented at the 1835 salon, nº2049. Jean-Baptiste Gaspard Deburau said Baptiste, was the most famous mime of the 19th century. Committed to Funambules theater in 1826, he renouvella the Pierrot character and assured the success of the theater. He began his career as the Baptist; its placidity in the role of Pierrot came the phrase "Quiet as a Baptist." His son, Charles (1829-1873), succeeded in taking the character of Pierrot.
