During his stay in Arles, a small town in the rural south of France, Van Gogh concentrated on painting the town's inhabitants--including the local mailman (Room 2) and the farm workers whose simple lifestyle he admired and idealized. Here, Van Gogh depicts a peasant smoking a pipe. The figure wears a humble coat comprised of loose, muddy strokes; ruddy cheeks suggest his work outdoors. Above his shoulder, a few horizontal dashes indicate puffs of smoke; thick, unblended marks describe an ear. Despite these moments of near abstraction, Van Gogh maintains an astounding attention to naturalistic detail, paying attention to the way a person really looks and behaves. Note how the man's mouth is slightly clenched to hold the pipe; and how his moustache is uneven rather than perfectly trimmed.

Your own replica of the work of art will be printed thanks to the help of state-of-the-art UV printing machines. This creates impressive and rich colors.
  • The poster print (canvas material): The poster is a printed cotton canvas paper with a nice finish on the surface. It is used for placing the fine art print in a custom frame. Please bear in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin between 2-6 cm around the print motif, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
  • Aluminium dibond print: Aluminium Dibond prints are prints on metal with an impressive effect of depth. A non-reflective surface creates a contemporary impression. For the Aluminium Dibond option, we print your selected work of art on the surface of the aluminum material. The bright & white parts of the artpiece shine with a silk gloss but without the glare.
