Pick your favorite material

For every product we offer a range of different materials and sizes. Pick your preferred material and size among the following alternatives:

  • Printed poster (canvas material): A poster print is a printed canvas with a slightly roughened surface texture. It is suited for placing the art copy using a personal frame. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin of something between 2 - 6cm around the print motif in order to facilitate the framing with a custom frame.
  • Printed acrylic glass (with real glass coating): An print on acrylic glass, often labelled as a an art print on plexiglass, will convert an artwork into great décor. Beyond that, the acrylic glass print is a viable alternative option to canvas or dibond fine art prints. The work of art is manufactured with the help of modern UV direct print technology. The major upside of an acrylic glass print is that contrasts as well as smaller artwork details become identifiable because of the very fine tonal gradation.
  • The canvas print: A canvas print is a printed canvas stretched on a wood frame. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is quite simple to hang your Canvas print without additional wall-mounts. Hence, a canvas print is suitable for all types of walls in your home.
  • Metal (aluminium dibond print): An Aluminium Dibond print is a print with an outstanding depth, creating a fashionable look by having a surface structure, which is non-reflective. A direct Aluminium Dibond Print is your ideal start to art reproductions produced on aluminum. The white & bright sections of the original artwork shine with a silk gloss but without any glow.

Disclaimer: We try to describe our art products as closely as possible and to exhibit them visually in our shop. Still, the colors of the printing material and the printing might differ marginally from the image on the device's screen. Depending on the screen settings and the quality of the surface, color pigments might not be printed one hundret percent realistically. Because all fine art prints are processed and printed manually, there might as well be minor differences in the exact position and the size of the motif.

General description from the museum's website (© Copyright - by Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark) - www.smk.dk)

Monotype in black. 119x161 mm

Degas’ figures are usually characterised by a distancing realism, by a vein of observation whose cool intensity seems less fascinated by the body’s erotic aura than by its simple, concrete existence as an object. This gaze appears to be a negative one; a gaze whose lack of mercy corroborates claims of Degas’ misogyny.

Socio-cultural interpretations of women Degas’ women are worn-out prostitutes, tired washerwomen, or unsightly dancers also bearing the marks of their profession. Degas’ choice of types and the manner of his presentation opens up his renditions of women to socio-cultural interpretations. They become images of social constructs, the constraints of which defines them and marks them through the lives they lead.

A socio-cultural coercion In this monotype, however, the female figure clearly and irresistibly radiates an erotic voluptuousness that Degas’ art can also include. The picture’s masquerade-like feel, its similarity to a stage wardrobe, defines the woman in relation to the waiting man, his gaze fixing her above the subtle sign of his cane. The space itself becomes an image of anticipated union, enfolding this relationship that has been brought about by socio-cultural coercion.
