Original artwork description from Indianapolis Museum of Art (© Copyright - Indianapolis Museum of Art - Indianapolis Museum of Art)

Gallery label: Idealized visions of the pleasures of local country life were popularized in the 1740s by Charles-Simon Favart at the Comic Opera in Paris and in paintings and stage sets by François Boucher, with whom Fragonard apprenticed prior to his 1752 Rome Prize win. Here, the young mother, with her pretty dress and powdered hair, owes more to staged pastorals than reality. Paintings this size functioned as interior decorations for wealthy patrons. Pretty country scenes were especially popular since rural subjects suited country châteaux equally as well as city dwellings, where they might recall fashionable pastimes, like the theater. Fragonard painted unusually dynamic decorative works and here vitality exudes from the abundant flora, rosy infant, and robust, pushy toddler

Art print materials on offer:

For every fine art print we offer a range of different sizes and materials. We allow you to pick your favorite size and material among the following product individualization options:

  • Acrylic glass print: A glossy print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes labelled as a UV print on plexiglass, makes the original work of art into beautiful décor and forms a good alternative to dibond or canvas fine art replicas. The artwork is custom-made with the help of modern UV direct printing machines. This creates the effect of deep and vivid colors.
  • Canvas: The canvas print, which should not be confused with a real artwork painted on a canvas, is a digital replica printed on a UV direct printing machine. It makes a sculptural effect of three dimensionality. The advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight. That means, it is quite simple to hang up the Canvas print without the support of any wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suitable for all kinds of walls.
  • Aluminium dibond print: These are metal prints on aluminium dibond material with an outstanding depth effect - for a modern look and non-reflective surface structure. For the Aluminium Dibond option, we print your favorite artwork onto the aluminium composite white-primed surface. The white and bright parts of the original work of art shine with a silk gloss, however without the glare.
  • The poster print on canvas material: Our poster print is a UV printed flat cotton canvas paper with a nice surface finish. The poster print is best qualified for putting the art copy with the help of a custom-made frame. Please bear in mind, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of something between 2-6cm round about the artwork to facilitate the framing with a custom frame.
